Rookies Cup during the GlemmRide

Race Report RDC Saalbach

The Specialized RockShox Rookies Cup is a long-standing guest at the GlemmRide in Saalbach. The small spectacle in the Austrian mountain bike mecca is therefore the perfect setting and this year attracted around 300 participants from 21 nations.

The GlemmRide in Saalbach Hinterglemm is a small and special bike festival. The programme traditionally includes the disciplines of slopestyle and downhill, although the offer has always been designed so that visitors can also get on their bikes themselves and explore the trails in the area. The impressive landscape provided the perfect setting, especially with such summery weather as it was, at least until Sunday. Popular offers were again the tours and riding technique courses by professionals of the mountain bike scene. Fabio Wibmer, Peter Henke, Jasper Jauch and Helene Fruhwirth, for example, invited guests to spend hours together on the trails at the Home of Lässig.

In addition to the competitions and their own activities on the bike, the expo area also provided the opportunity to find out about the latest news from the brands present. And of course, the evening was filled with parties and concerts, so that boredom was a foreign word.

A special feature of the Rookies Cup in Saalbach is that in addition to the series classes, the older age groups can also compete. So you could also see one or two fathers training together with their offspring. As always, Saturday morning was pretty relaxed and the participants did their usual training runs. The subsequent seeding run was the first yardstick. During the night there was some rain, which made Sunday morning a bit more tense.

However, the weather improved again towards the final run. The somewhat wet track conditions were not a problem for the course, however, as it proved to be quite weatherproof. From noon onwards, the final runs were on the agenda and the participants presented an exciting race.

The winner of the U19 male class gave the following assessment after the race:

Statement Sebastian Weinhandl

„I had another great run today, as I did yesterday in the seeding run. Fortunately, the weather held. It did rain a bit tonight, but it still went amazingly well. I'm just super stoked now that I came first.“

This means that the third of the five races in the series is over. However, there is hardly any time to recover, because the race continues next weekend in St. Kassian, Italy.
