Big start at the iXS Dirt Masters Festival

Last Thursday, the new generation of the sport was able to show what it can do for the first time this year. On an extra freshly built downhill track, it was straight to the point. Seeding run and the final took place on one day, which made the race a real challenge for the rookies.

The downhill track was dry and still quite fresh. There were many tricky spots on the new track, which the rookies were the first to test. The training and the seeding run were highly frequented, as more than 200 young riders wanted to get as many laps down on the track as possible. The seeding run then determined the starting position for the final in the early evening.

Keep your nerves

In the final race, things got interesting, as exhaustion and a drop in concentration could already be seen in some of the rookies. With a very late start, things got down to business on the new track. Starting at 5 p.m., the young talents delivered a hot race for the best time and thus the first victory of the season in 2023.

At the end of the day, Oliver Vogl (AUT - DH Team Tirol) took the win in the Pro U17 Men's category. Oliver was only about 11 seconds behind the times of the Elite Men, who made up their final on Sunday. In the women's U19 category, Rosa Zierl (AUT - DH Team Tirol) won by nine seconds. Rosa was also just over 10 seconds behind the time of Nina Hoffmann from the Elite Women.

Other winners in the Open Junior U19 category were Nevio Lehm. The Youth U17 class was won by Nick Emerson. Tessa Bonefeld won the Open Masters and Rosa Zierl won the Girls U17/U19 class. In the slightly younger Girls U13/U15 Clara Hirsch took the win and in the Boys U15 Anton Zierl took the best time. The Boys U13 class was won by Reid Simpson and in the youngest Kids U11 Jarda Prokes could take the victory.

First the race, then the pleasure

The first race of the rookies on the opening day of the festival was a really hot race. After the intense race day, the youngsters were able to enjoy the following days at the Dirt Masters. The large expo area offered over 100 exhibitors with many test bikes, goodies, stickers and autographs from international stars of the scene. There were also some rookies to be seen at smaller side events.

On to the second round

The PROPAIN Rookies Cup goes into the second round on June 16 in Oberhof. There should also be an interesting race here. The track is quite difficult and very rooted. It remains to be seen who will train the most until then and can shine with a great performance in Oberhof.
