The Rookies meet the fastest bike park in Germany

The excellent Racepark Schulenberg is stop #5 of the PROPAIN Rookies Cup 2025. The popular bike park in the Harz Mountains impresses with its challenging trails and cosy flair.

The team around Patric Dreher and Raceteam Schulenberg has been looking after this pure gravity bike park for over 15 years. In the meantime, Racepark Schulenberg has developed into one of the best and most popular bike parks in Germany. Racepark Schulenberg is a bike park built for bikers and not for tourists. This is evident from the design of the trails and the friendly atmosphere. Although the trails tend to be more difficult, young riders will also get their money's worth here. After numerous descents, cold drinks and tasty treats from the barbecue await bikers at the valley station.

The Track

The bike park's downhill trail is actually a suitable racing descent. This line has existed since the beginnings of the bike park, but the operators and trail builders in Schulenberg are not satisfied with that. As is customary in the Racepark, a line will be laid through the entire bike park especially for the race in order to create the best possible downhill course. It will be challenging, not easy and will feature smaller jumps. As a classic low mountain region, the Harz is blessed with sufficient forest, provided it is free of bark beetles. The widespread spruce monoculture with its shallow roots determines the ground. The topography provides a decent gradient, with a good 165 metres of depth to cover over a length of 1400m. Tough root passages and recurring stone fields are sweetened with perfectly shaped berms and spiced up with the odd jump.

However, the exact layout of the course will not be revealed until the race weekend in August. A good mix of natural trails and bike park constructions can be deliberately assumed.

Racepark Schulenberg

The municipality of Schulenberg recognised early on that skiing in the Harz Mountains would disappear in the long term and so the Kurbetriebsgesellschaft founded a bike park at the local lift facility almost 20 years ago. For the past 15 years, the bike park has been run and designed by the current team on their own initiative.
The Racepark Schulenberg is primarily aimed at mountain bike enthusiasts. Beginners or inexperienced riders are quickly overwhelmed by the difficulty and challenge of the trails. The Racepark is a mountain bike park by racers for racers.

The park currently has 6 trails and a jumpline. A drag lift with T-bars and Easyloop-technology takes the riders back up to the start. The terrain and the lift are steep and you should bring some experience with you to avoid flying out of the lift like the little ones at ski school. This year, the PROPAIN Rookies Cup is celebrating its premiere at Racepark Schulenberg. To enable as many people as possible to take part, a shuttle service to the start will be set up in addition to the lift.

Other annual events include the Enduro One series and the Super Gravity Cup. Special flair can be found at the in-house Downchill. The test crew of the local racing team ensures that the race tracks in Schulenberg also offer the right level of riding.

And of course, it's the cosy encounters at the valley station that make Racepark Schulenberg so unique. Over a regional wild boar sausage and freshly made chips from local organic potatoes, you can philosophise about the perfect line choice.

The Region

The Schulenberg Racepark is located in the centre of the Harz Nature Park in Lower Saxony and is part of the Harz National Park. Located directly on the Okertalsperre, a drinking water reservoir, the village of Schulenberg offers a lake feeling and plenty of peace and quiet. The northernmost low mountain range is a well-known hiking area and has many attractive offers for all nature seekers. The highest and most famous peak in the Harz National Park is the Brocken at 1141 metres above sea level. The spruce monoculture in the originally densely forested Harz has suffered greatly from the bark beetle infestation in recent years and bare forest areas now characterise many parts of the region.

Accomodations

The Vitalhotel/Sporthotel Schulenberg is the only hotel in the neighbourhood. Please book directly with the hotel.
As usual, there will be a paddock. The paddock will be set up within the village, the exact arrangement still requires further coordination with the municipality. More information will follow.

Gettin' There

The bike park is located in the northern part of the Harz Nature Park at the Okertalsperre. Due to construction work, access to Schulenberg and the bike park is only possible via Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Coming from the north, it is best to drive via Gosslar and Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Participants travelling from the south are best advised to drive via Osterode to Clausthal-Zellerfeld. All those wishing to avoid the country road should take the A7 highway to the Seesen exit.

Important: Access to Schulenberg via Altenau or from the north via the L489 is not possible.

Due to the circumstances, it is not possible to park your own vehicle directly at the bike park. Visitors' vehicles must be parked in the village of Schulenberg and access is via designated forest paths.

Registration

The race takes place from 22.08. to 24.08 at the Racepark Schulenberg. Registration for the PROPAIN RDC #5 opens 24th June, 2025. For more information about the race, please click here.
